Mavi bir günaydın yolluyorum sabahına
Yüreğimin sıcaklığını da gününe...
Sending a blue ‘bonjour’ to your morning,
And the warmth of my heart to your day…
Art is about bringing together differences and enrichment. I accepted the invitation by the ZERVAS family, who organizes and curates art events, with this point in mind.
The paint and the canvas are always the same, what differs is your colours and lines. For your heart, your mind, your experiences are all different. Coming together of this diversity carries you through an immense process of creation. The space of this creation matters. In the realm of mythology, imagination becomes the wing of freedom and flies towards the sculptures of the idealized human body, and lingers above the Greek vases… It is as if you have become Ikarus. But instead of consuming yourself for the sake of reaching the sun, you strive to keep flying through
Protagoras says “Man is the measure of everything.” Life is indeed cast by men. The canvases we were offered have become our space for a week. As my boundaries reached far beyond the limits of the canvas, I wandered through various dimensions of paper regardless of our ready-made lives and hovered, freely and alternately in black-and-white and in colours...
The journey of creation which started in the vast hall of a hotel, occasionally flowed to the streets of Thessalonike. The walls once decorated with relieves are now coloured in graffitti. It is as if the sense of community created through democratic debates, poetry readings and philosophical discussions is now carried on in other forms, at nights, through Greek music...
How insightful was Plutarchos, who said that “a city is well-fortified which has a wall of men instead of bricks”. In the course of the Thessalonike Art Fair, we witnessed a great sense of solidarity and a pleasing exchange with the ZERVAS family who curated our exhibition, Irene ZERVAS who was responsible for the secretariat, as well as the other artists coming from different parts of the world. Working with such morale which was never lost has been a gratifying experience for
all.
